American Sign Language videos
Over 200 videos, including dozens of lessons and demonstrations of how to sign,
are now located at the Brown Library. In addition to instructional videos, the
collection also has videos that address health, parenting and life skills
issues: others that tell the history and biography of deaf people; translations
of classic literature and children's stories; original ASL poetry, drama,
stories and humor, and inspirational titles.
Award Winners
What do the Newbery, Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Awards have in common?
Well in the Youth Services Department what they have in common is that they are
marked on the spine of the book. These award books have an orange sticker on
them with the name of the award and the year the book won.
Big Books
Big books are great for teachers, librarians and home school groups.
Learning Kits
Learning kits are a great way to introduce a title to your classroom. These kits
contain a paperback book, a laminated activity sheet related to the book and a
manipulative. Learning kits are great for teachers, librarians and home school
groups.
Public performance videos
When you visit the Youth Services Department you may notice the red and yellow
strips of tape on our videos. These colors indicate whether a video has a public
performance status. If the video has a yellow strip of tape teachers may request
upon checking out that they be allowed to keep the video for one week instead of
two days.
Storyboxes
Storyboxes are a wonderful resource for teachers, librarians and home schooling
groups. These themed storytimes-in-a-box include six books, two laminated
activity sheets and sometimes a puppet or other manipulative.
Teacher Collection
Did you know that there is a special section dedicated just to teachers in the
Youth Services Department? The call number is J PS and the resources can help
you find themes, activities, crafts, books, curriculum information and more.
